CALL FOR POSITION PAPERS

We invite researchers in Architectural Robotics, Interaction and Fabrication to submit to CrossFAB, a one day workshop at CHI 2016

We created CrossFAB to bring together a diverse community of fabrication-based researcher in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Graphics, Robotics, Art, Architecture, and Material Science. We are inviting researchers from each discipline to participate in CrossFAB in order to learn about the unique tools, techniques, and challenges currently being worked on in isolation of one another.

Processing Workshop: Light and Sound as Building Materials

In this intermediate Processing workshop with myself and Mike Szivos of SOFTLab, participants will be taught various ways of using sound as an input for crafting interactive environments.

Mike will first give a detailed breakdown of the design and production of his installation for Sonos Studios: Light House.  Thereafter we will build a few simple programs for manipulating sound with dynamic input.  The workshop will conclude with participants developing a simple model for generating and exploring the behavioral and spatial qualities of sound.

Some basic knowledge of Processing is required.

Register here.

Lecture at FIU SOA

Madeline Gannon has been invited to give the Spring 2013 Alumni Lecture at Florida International University's School of Architecture.  The lecture, entitled THIS COULD GET WEIRD: Merging Territories in Architecture, Digital Design & Culture, examines the value of reclaiming this interface as an architectural territory. The lecture argues for integrating a transdiciplinary and anti-disciplinary ethos into the conservative domain of Architecture, and discusses the messiness that would consequentially ensue. Lastly, the lecture demonstrates current design research that focuses on the interface as a primary facilitator for interstitial interactions between digital and analog datums.

Reverberating Across the Divide was presented as a part of [en]CodingArchitecture 2013: A Conference on the Autonomy of Architecture, Robotics, Fabrication, Code, Machinic Desire, and Computational TheoryReverberating reconnects digital and physical contexts via a custom chronomorphologic modeling environment. This modeling interface uses a three phase workflow (3D scanning, 3D modeling, and 3D printing) to enable a designer to craft intricate digital geometries around pre-existing physical contexts.
